As the landscape of gaming evolves alongside technology, many classic titles from the past seem to fade into obscurity. This has sparked a significant movement advocating for the preservation of games, ensuring these treasured works of art remain accessible. Notable companies, such as Nintendo, have drawn criticism for discontinuing access to older titles, particularly with the recent closure of their 3DS and Wii U digital stores. In contrast, the PC gaming platform GOG has launched an innovative initiative called the Preservation Program. This project aims to ensure that classic games remain compatible with current and future hardware, focusing specifically on the PC gaming experience. Currently, the program encompasses a collection of 100 games. Among these preserved titles are popular classics like:
- Resident Evil 2
- Resident Evil 3
- System Shock 2
- The Witcher
- Sim City 3000
- With GOG’s efforts, these iconic games will continue to be available for players in the years to come.
