Ubisoft Cuts Jobs in the U.S. Following Project Cancellations

Recently, Ubisoft decided to reduce its workforce in the United States. This week, the company revealed it has eliminated 45 positions across its San Francisco office and Red Storm Entertainment located in Cary, North Carolina. This announcement follows the cancellation of a project at Red Storm known as Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland, which was terminated earlier this year. At that time, company representatives indicated that remaining employees would be reassigned to other titles, including the Rainbow Six series.

This action is part of a larger pattern of reductions and layoffs occurring within the gaming sector, as well as specifically at Ubisoft, the publisher behind the Assassin's Creed franchise. Although the exact number of personnel impacted in each studio remains uncertain, Ubisoft has confirmed that those affected will receive severance packages and career transition assistance, albeit without specifying the particulars of that support.

The Red Storm Entertainment team has a rich history, contributing to popular franchises like Far Cry, while the Ubisoft San Francisco team has developed titles such as Rocksmith and South Park: The Fractured but Whole.
