A New Netflix sci-fi show compared to X-Men and Misfits lands its first full trailer.
Netflix has had an incredible year for sci-fi shows, from 3 Body Problem to Parasyte: The Grey. This June, the streamer is adding another one to the list with the London-based superhero drama Supacell, which has just received its first adrenaline-pumping trailer.
The trailer opens with protagonist Michael standing in front of a portal. Stating that he journeyed to the future and witnessed his girlfriend's demise, he faces the dilemma of saving her life or many others. Alongside, viewers are introduced to four other super-abled individuals with glowing yellow eyes dealing with their new powers. The clip culminates with the five characters standing together, seemingly united.
Soon after Netflix released the clip on Twitter, fans eagerly expressed their excitement for the new sci-fi adventure, comparing it to other legendary British shows. One Twitter user mentioned it felt reminiscent of Project Power and Misfits, while another likened it to the iconic Marvel franchise, referring to it as a "British X-Men."
Set in South London, Supacell follows a group of five ordinary people who suddenly develop superpowers that start to affect their everyday lives. Initially strangers, their newfound abilities connect them, and in a Madame Web-like manner, it falls to Michael Lasaki to unite them and help them confront a powerful unknown entity that threatens their lives.
British rapper Rapman and Sebastian Thiel direct the six-part drama. The series stars Tosin Cole as Michael Lasaki, Nadine Mills, Josh Tedeku, Adebayo Adedayo, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Giacomo Mancini, Rayxia Ojo, Calvin Demba, Travis Jay, Michael Salami, and Eddie Marsan.
Supacell premieres June 27 on Netflix.
