Google Maps Expands Live Activities Integration for iOS Users, Enhancing Navigation Experience

Google Maps is gradually increasing its support for Live Activities on iOS, providing users with additional travel information at a glance. Apple first introduced support for Live Activities with iOS 16 in 2022, and since then, various third-party applications have incorporated the feature. Live Activities presents helpful details like a countdown or progress bar on the lock screen and around the Dynamic Island on compatible iPhone models.

A report by 9to5Google indicates that several iOS users have started accessing Live Activities within Google Maps over the past couple of months. User-submitted screenshots imply that the feature is operational in numerous regions and languages, including India. According to the publication, support for the iOS feature has been gradually expanding to more users after its initial tests earlier this year.

Once this feature becomes available on Google Maps for iOS, users will see Live Activities on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island during navigation on their iPhone. The display will show the next direction, a horizontal progress bar, and the estimated time of arrival.

It's important to mention that the rollout is not yet widespread, and there's no official statement from Google regarding when it plans to extend Live Activities support on Google Maps to all iOS users. Staff members at Gadgets 360 were unable to access Live Activities on the latest versions of both iOS and Google Maps from the App Store.

While Google continues to test this feature for its navigation app, several other third-party apps have already integrated support for Live Activities. These apps include Uber, Zomato, Swiggy, FotMob, Gentler Streak, Forest, and Lumy.
